Rene Yung and her collaborators with the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park have been investigating the forgotten history of the Chinese shrimp fishing industry in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their research methods included an expedition on the Grace Quan, a replica of a 19th century Bay junk, to former Chinese shrimping sites around the Bay. The project, Chinese Whispers: Bay Chronicles now is culminating with a multimedia art installation by Yung that features sound by Jeremiah Moore and video by Chihiro Wimbush at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park Visitor Center. The installation opens on November 14, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., and continues through January 10, 2016 (9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. daily).
