Congratulations to writer Summer Brenner whose Richmond Tales: Lost Secrets of the Iron Triangle was selected by the California Teachers Association (CTA) for the California Reads program–part of CTA’s Read Across America initiative. Brenner’s book will be featured in the CTA magazine and at its conferences and community events across the state (January 24-25 in Los Angeles, February 6-8 in San Jose, and March 20-22 in San Diego.
Brenner developed the book for young readers with middle school students in Richmond, California. It has been published by the West Contra Costa Unified School District and distributed for free to thousands of students as part of a program to encourage reading during the summer months. It also has been used in adult literacy programs (see photo). Brenner recently published Oakland Tales–a second book for middle school readers that is set in Oakland and developed with input from Oakland students.
