The San Francisco Public Library (Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, fiscal sponsor) are collaborating with Kate Connell and Oscar Melara and the artists? neighbors in San Francisco?s Portola District to produce a set of handmade books, an exhibition, an event, and a Web site exploring their little-known neighborhood in southeast San Francisco that is about to have its own branch library Content for the books is being generated through conversations, oral histories and use of archival materials from Portola residents and librarians, and from the library?s San Francisco History Center.
