On Saturday, November 21, at 1:30 p.m., Peralta Hacienda Historical Park is hosting Oakland actor and dramatist Norman Gee, who is holding a talk-back about his use of drama with youth in juvenile detention. Also speaking are community member Gwen Jackson and Creative Work Fund artist Linda Norton reflecting on the impact of incarceration on such communities as Oakland’s Fruitvale.
This public conversation is offered in conjunction with an exhibition of collages that Norton–a writer and artist–created with community members responding to the theme “Home and Away“–stories of incarceration and its impact on families. The event is free, but those interested in attending should sign up as space is limited.
