Fashioned as swing coats, Oakland fabric artist Patricia A. Montgomery‘s innovative quilts feature stories of heroines of the Civil Rights movement. The collection, Honoring the Heroines of the Civil Rights Movement, now may be seen at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles through October 14.
Montgomery created the coats in collaboration with the African American Museum and Library at Oakland, which assisted her in her research and presented the first exhibit of the coats that have since been shown across the state and country.
