For three years, artist Sue Mark and MarkSearch, along with Kala Art Institute, have been investigating North Oakland history, focusing on the neighborhood surrounding the historic Golden Gate Branch Library. Their deep relationship-building in that community culminates on Saturday, September 21, from 1-4 p.m., when the public is invited to celebrate the publication of a locally-focused set of reference books, Golden Gate Conversations. Each of eight titles in the series includes many materials that were, up to now, stored in basements, locked file cabinets, and forgotten boxes.

The celebration at the Golden Gate Branch Library will feature storytelling by long-time residents and area historians along with performances by neighborhood musicians. Admission is free.
