On Saturday, November 9, Marcus Shelby is bringing Gwah Gai: Crossing the Street, his musical collaboration with visual artist Flo Oy Wong and Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center, to the Ellis Street Stage at The Luggage Store Annex and Tenderloin National Forest in San Francisco. The performance, from noon to 4 p.m. is part of a larger celebration of the 75th birthday of Flo Oy Wong, which also includes an exhibition of Wong’s work, “The Whole Pie” (curated by Pamela Wu Kochiyama); and “A Slice of Life,” work made in honor of Wong by students, families, and community partners of Rooftop School in San Francisco. An opening reception for the visual arts component of the piece will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 8, at The Luggage Store.
