On Tuesday, May 14, at 6 p.m. at Brava Theater Center, WritersCorps, a project of the San Francisco Arts Commission, presents Iron Mom, Not Just a Baby Mama, a collaboration among poet Leticia Hernandez, visual artist Ana Teresa Fernandez, young mothers attending Hilltop School, and Minna Dubin, writer and WritersCorps teaching artist. The Iron Mom project is culminating with published writing, audio recordings, and poetry performances–live on May 14 and exhibited later online. Through this collaboration, the lead artist Hernandez was interested in exploring her experience of motherhood–as a feminist who gave birth to two boys at ages 33 and 38–and the participating students from Hilltop School–a campus for pregnant and parenting teens. The event is free and donations are appreciated.
