John Duykers is presenting excerpts from Hand To Mouth at First Look Sonoma’s annual gala on August 24 from 1-4 p.m. at The French Garden Restaurant in Sebastopol. Duykers, his artist collaborators, and his partners at Occidental Arts and Ecology will have completed their first workshop session for the project and be ready to show the work in progress along with other new pieces. Hand to Mouth is a song play about food that takes a humorous and theatrically vivid musical journey following the seed from the soil to the plate. The piece incorporates farmers’ stories of how food grows and text from Michael Pollen’s Food Rules, an Eater’s Manual.
