Filmmaker Jennifer Kroot collaborated with the Japanese American Museum of San Jose on developing the internment history aspect of her documentary, To Be Takei, which explores the personal story, artistic work, and LGBTQ activism of George Takei. Takei, best known as Sulu, the Star Trek helmsman, recently premiered his musical Allegiance about Japanese internment, on Broadway. Development of the musical is a key thread in the plot of To Be Takei. On Saturday, November 21, 1-3 pm, the Japanese American History Museum of San Jose is screening Kroot’s film as a special event. Jennifer Kroot will be present to talk about the film and answer questions. To reserve tickets, contact: [email protected].
