Valencia, a experimental film adaptation of Michelle Tea‘s novel (of the same title) by Hilary Goldberg is premiering on Friday, June 21, at 9 p.m. at the International LGBT Film Festival in San Francisco. Tickets are available online. To develop a film that captured, in Goldberg’s words, “the colors, sounds, and textures of the 90s–riot grrrl and grunge, ACT-UP, ‘zines, and Lesbian Avengers,” she created one chapter as a short film and invited 19 other media artists to adapt the other chapters. Seventeen of the 20 short films have been compiled into the finished movie. Also collaborating are visual artist Amanda Verwey, musician Rocco Kayiatos, and RADAR Productions.
