Voice of Witness and storyteller and culture-keeper Elena Botkin-Levy will create a collaboratively designed sonic tablecloth that connects Oakland communities through stories centered on food holidays, traditions, and recipes in the context of place, migration, home, and belonging. Setting the Table: Stories of Food and Belonging partners with East Bay Sanctuary Covenant to document oral histories with members of different immigrant communities in Oakland and, using interactive technology, will incorporate the audio into a tablecloth made from illustrated fabric. The completed sonic tablecloth will be installed at a series of community events in the Bay Area to catalyze engagement and conversation, and a digital version will be hosted online.
