On Saturday, September 1, from 1-4 pm, community members are warmly invited to celebrate a new mural, painted by Edythe Boone in collaboration with the Berkeley Drop-in Center (managed by the Alameda County Network of Mental Health Clients), residents of South Berkeley, and a team of artists. The mural may be found at the corner of Ashby and Ellis streets. The celebration will feature food at 1:00 pm along with entertainment at 2:00 pm and speeches at 3:15.
According to the mural team, “The purpose of this project is to honor and preserve the joy of our diverse community, our cultural values, and its history, while showing respect to our unsheltered residents.”
Attendance at the celebration is free, though guests are invited to bring food to share.
