On March 19 at 8 p.m. and March 20 at 7 p.m., composer and musician John Calloway and the Community Music Center are premiering El Son de la Mision, an exploration of the music of San Francisco’s Mission District from the 1960s to the present. The music is composed and arranged by Calloway, who worked closely with scriptwriter and lyricist Carlos Baron and guest composers Francisco Herrera, Greg Landau, and John Santos. The performance features an array of artists, ensembles, and special guests.
El Son de la Mision features original songs that reflect pivotal social and artistic movements in the neighborhood’s past with artists of the present. Performances are at Brava Theater Center and tickets are available.
