On Thursday, January 14, at 7:00 p.m., Frameline — producers of the San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival — presents an encore screening of To Be Takei, a documentary about actor and marriage equality activist George Takei, at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco. The film by Jennifer Kroot covers Takei’s experience as a boy in an internment camp and she collaborated with the Japanese American Museum of San Jose on historical research for the project. It also traces his film career, including his popular role as the helmsman on Star Trek; his activism; and his development of the musical Allegiance, which was performed live on Broadway in 2015. The film’s director Kroot and editor/co-director Bill Weber are expected to attend the screening, which is co-presented by the Center for Asian American Media.
