Developed through a collaboration between poet Gary Soto and Marsh Youth Theater, In and Out of Shadows is based on the lives and experiences of a group of undocumented teenagers. Soto developed this musical play through interviews with San Francisco Bay Area DREAMers, mixing humor and pathos in the voices of teens who are navigating the shadows of being undocumented. Now performed by SF Youth Theatre DREAM Ensemble, directed by Cliff Mayotte, and featuring music by Emily Klion and George Brooks, performances of In and Out of Shadows are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the United Farm Workers’ Grape Strike. It’s currently on tour in Bakersfield and Modesto:
- Bakersfield College, September 25, 9:30 a.m.
- California State University, Bakersfield, September 26, 7:00 p.m.
- Modesto High School, September 27, 5:00 p.m.
