Silicon Valley Creates announces that Poets and Writers are invited to apply to become the county’s Poet Laureate. Applications are due September 30, 2013.
The Laureate post was created in 2008 by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and the nominee is appointed by the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors for a two-year term. The Laureate position raises public awareness and advocates for poetry, literature, and the arts through public appearances and community projects that make poetry more accessible for Santa Clara County residents. The laureate receives a $4,000 stipend each year, plus up to $1,000 for expenses. (An example can be found at 2011-13 Poet Laureate Sally Ashton’s blog).
