To Be Takei, a documentary film about Star Trek helmsman and marriage rights activist George Takei, is premiering across the United States and parts of Canada on Friday, August 22, 2014 in theaters, VOD, and on iTunes.  For a full schedule of screenings, visit www.tobetakei.com and click on “screenings.”

George and Brad Takei will be present at the Los Angeles screenings at Sundance Sunset Cinema in West Hollywood on August 22 at 7:30 and 9:00 p.m. The film’s director and the Creative Work Fund project’s lead artist Jennifer Kroot will be in attendance for the San Francisco screenings at Sundance Kabuki Cinema on August 22, 23, and 24. The film’s editor and co-director Bill Weber will join Kroot on the 22nd.

In tracing George Takei’s development as an actor and activist, Kroot delved into his childhood experiences in Japanese internment camps during the Second World War. Her collaborating organization, the Japanese American Museum of San Jose assisted with research into the interment camps part of the story.
